Tyrique is one of the smartest, kindest and most driven students I have ever met in my fifteen plus years of working in education. I first met him while working at HOPES CAP (Community Action Partnership), Inc. in Hoboken. Despite the beauty and wealth in Hoboken, Hudson County can be a hard environment for a young man. He attended my Minecraft Maker's Club, a peer lead group that worked with staff and local volunteers to play the online game together, have positive social interactions, build community, and receive additional education in the area of technology. He was an awesome junior instructor, who had a great deal of patience and high level competence. From there, Tyrique also attended coding classes, including Modding in Minecraft, in which he excelled.
Last summer, Steven's Institute of Technology had offered HOPES' students the opportunity to attend their summer camp program for free through a grant they had received. Tyrique was able to attend the program, and it provided a valuable extension to everything he had been learning through our previous work together. Unfortunately, the situation is different this year in a few ways; the grant funding recipients were determined through a different community partner and I have since changed jobs which doesn't provide me the same resources previously accessible. However, I am determined to find a way to fund Tyrique's summer camp experience at Steven's. An opportunity like this can change the course of a youth's life. If you have a few bucks to support this opportunity and his future, please donate.
