My Answer to My Son’s Tough Question Before and After His Brother Passed Away

“Mom, are we fortunate?” That was the question my 10-year-old asked tonight. Just out of the blue. I was wrestling around with Isaac, trying to wipe baby food off his face, the TV is blasting, Isaac’s iPad is singing, the dog is barking — and he asks me if we’re fortunate!

As a family, we’ve endured more trials than sometimes I think is even fair. Sometimes, I get sick of hearing, “You’re never given more than you can handle,” and I just want to scream! My philosophy is oh yes, we are, but it’s how we handle those trials that is the true test. Do we come together as a family or do these trials tear us apart?  Continue reading on The Mighty.

Editorial: Support for Christensen family inspiring

The community was in a state of shock this week after learning of the death of Coleman Christensen, the personable 21-year-old who in 2011 quarterbacked the Vacaville High School football team to a 13-1 record and the Sac-Joaquin Section championship.

The true character of the community came out this week when friends used a funding website to raise money to help Holbein and the baby. That resulted in nearly $70,000 raised thus far. To join the cause, visit https://moveyourmountain.org/c/ColeC…read more on The Reporter.

Mom Writes Loving Letter to Parents

Mom Kathy Roller went to the new Star Wars movie with her husband expecting action, adventure, and a good time. She didn’t expect to leave in tears, her heart full of memories of her son Isaac, a 7-year-old with a heart condition and special needs who passed away earlier this year. What moved Roller to tears wasn’t anything on screen. Rather, it was the loud laughter and other noises of another child in the theater that stirred memories of Roller’s son…continue reading on Parents.com.

Helping Hands at the Nevada Food Bank

When we first arrived to volunteer, we received a tour of the pantry by a few of the amazing people working for the Food Pantry. One person in particular, Scott, stood out to me as he spoke passionately about the work that the organization does and the amount of families being helped not only on a yearly basis but every day. I learned that Scott was at one point homeless and living on the streets of Reno…read more.
