My name is Melanie Ullauri, I was raised in Spain until the age of 14. Due to our
economic situation, my family and I decided to move to the United States to find
better opportunities. So here I am, in my last year of High School and about to start
college. So far, I am proud of myself and what I've done with my life, but I believe I
can do a lot more. I have been an honor roll student throughout my High School
along with perfect attendance - an example that everything can be done, you just
have to work hard for it. I have also taken AP classes, which I was able to complete
receiving a grade of 5. I never thought that time will pass by so fast, it feels like it is
still my freshmen year and I got all the time in the world. But it is almost the end of
my senior year. I am more than ready to go to college and take all the opportunities
that I can to be a better person, to have a career, and a great future.
I know college is very expensive, so far I have received a scholarship of $2000
dollars for being a leader in my senior class, where I worked hard encouraging my
friends to apply for college and look for more chances to find a better future. In
addition, I will receive another scholarship for being part of the book "They Say", a
poetry collection of many students with a lot of stories to be heard.
I applied and got accepted at the University of Texas - San Antonio, where I plan to
start classes in the fall of 2016 to become a nurse. It is a costly choice, but I only
have two options: either go to college, make my dreams come true, and get the
education that I am looking for or just stay home and work. I'm not saying the last
option is a bad decision, but is not the decision I would like to take. I know I am
capable of doing great things, of being part of something good and becoming an
active contributor to our society.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please forward this
message to your family and friends. Your support and contribution truly counts!
Thank you!
Melanie Ullauri.
