My name is Peggy Parker and I live in Spokane, WA. On December 26th, 2014 I saw a TV interview with a local 9-year old girl that made a big impression on me. Her #1 Christmas wish was to feed a homeless person Christmas dinner and she challenged the viewers saying that if she was only 9 and could do something, then everyone could do something.
So I got inspired and started making hats for the homeless the very next day. Since December 27th, I have personally made over 200 hats and have gathered about 3 dozen more from volunteer knitters. I place them on Spokane's iconic Bloomsday runners with a tag that says, "If you need one, take one!"
It's my goal to raise the money to purchase enough fleece and supplies to make 10,000 hats! Right now I have people who have volunteered to help from as far away as Albany, New York! With this kind of volunteer work force I know we can meet or exceed our goal!
While spring is just around the corner, this is a great time to purchase the fleece because it's now on sale at record low prices! This means each dollar donated makes an even bigger impact! In fact, the cost to make a very warm and reversible fleece hat drops from $3.25 each to only $.75 each!
Above all, I hope you remember that no matter how small or insignificant an act of kindness and compassion may seem to you, it's never insignificant or small to the person who receives it. So please help me warm more heads and hearts, your contribution really does make a difference! I have partnered with a local non-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductible.. Thank You!
