So today I got to share my story and healing with the people at our church SCF. The responses were amazing and overwhelming. I noticed it made some people very uncomfortable but lots of them were shaking their heads with acknowledgment. After each service (we had 2) people came up to me to thank me for sharing and to share with me how they have been effected by child sexual abuse. So many hurting people. I can't wait to start the small group. There is a definite need for the healing.
So many responses in the past two days, so many other victims reaching out to me. The pain is real but glad to offer hope to those that need it. Please continue to share so we can reach as many as possible to let them know they are not alone. Can't wait to help others get the healing they are longing for. Tomorrow I get to share my story at Sparks Christian Church, so many others will learn about the hope and healing. I will keep you posted on how that goes.
I have been asked what we will use the money for that is being raised at this initial stage. Here is a break down. Hope that helps.
Thank you Brit for supporting this cause. You are allowing us to purchase our first DVD healing course to use at our first small group soon.
You are not alone.
This is what victims of Child Sexual Abuse need to hear. There is Hope and Healing possible after Sexual Abuse. I am raising funds to start a non- profit organization that helps victims of Child Sexual Abuse find the Healing. Counseling is necessary after abuse but often not in people's budget. This organization will help us cover the cost of small groups, and counseling as well as teaching prevention classes.
Will you join and support us and help break this cycle?
Here is my story
Child sexual abuse is a hard topic that very few want to talk about. But the statistics are staggering. The CDC states that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience sexual abuse. In 90% of the cases the child knows their abuser as in a family member, family friend, or acquaintance. Only 7% of the abuse gets reported at the time it is happening. Kids are scared and ashamed to tell anyone. If they do tell it's mostly to moms and teachers. I am one of those girls who was molested by a family member and I never told anyone until I was 29 years old. I was too ashamed and scared to tell anyone. Our brains are amazing at locking trauma away but a couple of times during my early adulthood I had flashbacks which I didn't know what to do with. So I used alcohol to numb the pain and after a couple of weeks the memories would be locked up again. At 29 I realized I had to get help and I saw a Christian Counselor who helped me get healing. It was a hard process but I am so thankful for doing the work. I am a much healthier, stable and loving person for it. While I was healing I knew there had to be a reason I was going through all the deep pain of my abuse. So knowing the statistics I started talking to others about what had happened to me as a child. Many opened up to me and told me what had happened to them or to their child. The pain I saw and see in their eyes when they tell me their story makes me want to do more. In my experience people will open up about their abuse when they know they are not alone and when they hear that someone else has experienced similar pain. I also know out of personal experience that healing is possible. But it takes work and help from an experienced counselor.
