Super Teddy Update: 4/3/16
Yahhh, Teddy's finally out of the hospital!!! We're not completely in the clear and have had to stay in the area of the hospital since Sunday. He has to have blood draws and xrays done regularly to make sure his body's still doing good on all his meds. Still much better then the hospital but also less help with him, so added stress in other departments. I can't express how happy we are to see our Teddybear in higher spirits then he's ever been in♡☆♡ him crawling, talking and laughing make it all seem worth it!! Check out day was quite a hassle, trying to figure out where to stay while we're still in seattle (hospital un able to help due to protocols), finding out teddy's insurance had been denied at some point during our stay, and packing and loading alone on discharge day all alone....it was definitely a bittersweet day to say the least. But any sort of check out is good news so Teddy and I enjoyed it. He has post op appointments tomorrow and we're praying all his tests and numbers look good. This would meen the whole family is that much closer to being home♡♡♡♡ Thank you all for your help, prayers and support so far. We'll get home eventually its just slow going;) Anything thing else anyone can spare during this on going fight is always greatly appreciated!! Love you all, Johanson family♡

Teddy bear's surgery update! - 3/19/16
Theodore did great!! He got back up to the CICU from surgery last night with NO ventilater, what a great start to his post op recovery:). It took some time to get him settled and rested(ofcourse they had him on morphine which he can not be on). With the right meds and a little umizoomi he settled down to rest. Only an hr later he woke up so thirsty that when they swabbed his mouth he'd suck the swab dry and cry for more. My Teddy bear gets what he wants, they weren't even letting him have fluids until today...but he obviously wanted something so he drank 8 oz of juice throughout the night, and a little breastmilk. Then passed out to heal. This morning he was already off the cannula and on his own oxygen. He's gotten his cath., anus temp. probe, pacer wires, and drainage chest tubes out. He's on alot less medication then he was on before surgery and can try purees today. He is making progress by leaps and bounds and the team says this only proves even more that his VSD (whole) was causing alot of havoc on him and his lung. ALL his stats./numbers look really really good. His oxygen level stayed high and blood pressure barely jumped while they pulled the 2 pacer wires and 2 drainage tubes out, this tells me his body is much more stable then before. And it's only day 1 post op!!! I could never express how overjoyed I am, its first time this stay my tears were happy tears. Crossing my fingers and praying that this surgery will stick and we will see the change we were supposed to see in January!!! Dr Chen (Theodores surgeon) is an amazing man, I hold him in the highest regard and we owe Teddy's life to him, God and all of you for your prayers and support. Teddy's fight will never be over, but he might finally get to live his life the way a 1 year old boy should, playing, eating, learning, moving, fighting with sistra, and being with family. It won't last forever but it will be a much needed break!! We love you all and will keep you posted, even if it's not right away!!;)
P.S thank you all who donated last night and today, Matt and I were in awe and are so grateful!♡♡♡♡ Johanson family
Please pray for our Teddy bear!! He's in his 3rd open heart surgery right now, at a ripe age of 13 months:(. He's been on and off the ventilater for a total of 16 days and has had one catheterization along with many obstacles to hurdle through out this stay. Our family has been here at Seattle Children's Hospital for 5 weeks waiting out his colds and figuring out why his lung was rapidly filling with fluid and collapsing. But after a lot of lasix and tests, they had determined it was his heart causing all the trouble. Which is why he's in surgery now, we are asking for your prayers, support and anything anyone is willing to donate. This entire stay has been 5 times longer then originally thought and is still not over. Pray for a healthy speeding recovery for my #HeartWarrior. He's an inspiration and teaches us to have gratitude for our lives. Thank you all for the support and donations so far.♡♡♡ we will keep you updated on how his surgery went. Matt, Tiffany, and the entire Johanson family ask for your prayers for our little Teddy who has been in a battle for his health since his surgery on January 14th. The outcome of the surgery was very promising. The doctors were optimistic and Teddy was released to go home on January 22nd. Teddy turned one year old just a couple weeks later on February 7th. However, he was also suffering from a cold. On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Teddy's oxygen levels suddenly started to drop and the family was directed to drive him to the hospital in Wenatchee for evaluation. By the time they arrived, Teddy was having difficulty breathing, and Teddy and Tiffany were soon airlifted to Children's Hospital in Seattle. Teddy has remained in Seattle Children's, where they have treated him for a collapsed lung. Sticky mucous deposits in his lungs, probably from his cold, have required intense respiratory therapy to treat. His three weeks in Children's have been a tumultuous roller coaster for Teddy and his family. He has been on and off a ventilator several times. He's had to deal with varying levels of sedation. He has shown improvement, even to the point where they were thinking of sending him home, only to deteriorate rapidly back to requiring a ventilator, and without clear cause. He experienced an allergic reaction, likely to the hospital's formula or to a medication. Most recently, Teddy has suffered sudden and seemingly random fevers all the way up to 104°. Which have been treated with cold cloths as no medical regimen seemed to help. The medical staff is not entirely certain as to the cause of Teddy's fevers. They do not currently think it indicates any greater problem with his heart, which is a good thing. His cold virus cleared last week and new lab cultures have come back clear, though they currently think he may have caught a stomach bug. On the evening of March 5th he was able to come off the ventilator, which he had been on for 10 straight days. YOUR PRAYERS FOR Teddy, Tiffany, Matt, Tillie, the extended family, and for the medical team working to heal him are GREATLY APPRECIATED! It is currently unclear how long Teddy may have to stay in the hospital, likely 2-4 more weeks in the best case scenario. He may also require additional surgical procedures to check all the stitching and possibly to close a gap in his heart which widened slightly since his last surgery. Teddy's grandma and grandpa brought their motorhome over to Seattle Children's for the family to stay in until Teddy improves Donations will go toward the family's expenses as neither parent has been able to work during this extremely trying time. Thank you all for your support, we couldn't be more grateful!♡! Sincerely, Tiffany, Matt, Tillie Belle, and most of all our HeartWarrior Teddy Bear.
HI! I'm Theodore but most people call me Teddybear. My story starts in utero, when my mommy was 20 weeks pregnant the ultrasound tech saw an abnormality in my tiny heart. This was my first little miracle (it is very hard to detect DORV in utero at that gestation). Mommy, Daddy, sister and I all had to relocate to be close to Seattle Children's Hospital. Mommy was 28 weeks pregnant. I have lived my 1 year of life plus 12 weeks in utero in and out of the hospital. Mommy has lost count of how many tests and medications I have been subject to, so many blown veins that they have to typically go through my neck, ventilaters, feeding tubes, restraints, wires, monitors, x-rays, echocardigrams, blood draws, these things are daily hospital protocols to keep me safe while I fight for my life. I've been through 2 open heart surgeries, 2 catheterization, and many hospital visits and stays just in my 13 months of life. When I get a cold virus or a sickness I loose all usage of left lung which in hand puts me back in the ICU on the ventilater. THIS IS A GLIMPSE OF A CHILD LIVING WITH SEVERE CHD. There is no cure and all my parents can do is help me to have the best quality of life possible. The doctors save my life, my mommy keeps me thriving. The funding will go to my care outside of the hospital and my family so we may all stay together in these trying times. ♡♡♡♡♡ Tiffany(mom)- speaking on behalf of my HeartWarrior.
