As I was doing research to begin volunteering my time with Reno's Volunteers of America, I learned about their program called Operation Backpack.

I'd like to raise enough money to give 10 kids an amazing start to the school year with a new backpack, fully stocked with school supplies. This money will be donated directly to the VOA program.

The website states that each year, thousands of homeless and at-risk children in our local communities return to school without the basic supplies they need. Children who live in poverty or are homeless face many challenges and tremendous stigmatization – as a result, less than 25% graduate from high school.

Preparing these children for school with a new backpack filled with school supplies boosts their self-esteem and gives them the tools and confidence needed to learn and thrive in school.

$50 = 1 backpack + school supplies. $500 = 10 backpacks + school supplies.
