Our wedding was planned for weekend of the 29th, and because of the riots in Ferguson, it just wasn’t safe to have all of our family fly into town (and we didn’t really feel safe either).

The venue for our wedding, the rehearsal dinner, and reception luncheon had to all be cancelled. We saved for months and paid deposits in the 10s of thousands that we’ll probably never get back. 

I love Derreck with all my heart and can’t wait to marry him. So, we just went to the courthouse and got married. We will always remember that day...for it meant more than just the beginning of our lives together, it was the start of a conversation the nation needed to have.

We appreciate all the love and support that you’ve shown us. Many of you have asked if you can help in any way….and we were hesitant at first. But because people kept asking us, probably because they felt bad that we cancelled, we felt that we would of COURSE take any gifts you wish to send us. EVEN if that meant cash for a small honeymoon to the Caribbean. So we set this up as a way for people to support us.
